Dar es Salaam. The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has put residents of 14 regions on alert as it forecasts heavy rains starting April 12, 2024.
Issued on Wednesday, the advisory says Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Zanzibar and Morogoro as among those likely to be affected.
The TMA statement said on Wednesday that heavy rainfall is also expected in Coast, Lindi, Mtwara, Rukwa, Iringa, Mbeya, Songwe, Njombe and Ruvuma, in addition to Unguja and Pemba islandsThe authority has forewarned of potential consequences such as flooding and disruptions to economic activities within the specified areas.
According to TMA, Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Morogoro, Pwani, Lindi, Mtwara, as well as the islands of Unguja and Pemba, will experience heavy rainfall. Additionally, residents of parts of Iringa, Njombe, and Ruvuma are advised to remain vigilant as they may also encounter significant rainfall.
It states that heavy rains will continue into April 14, 2024 in Dar es Salaam, Tanga, Morogoro, Coast, Lindi, Mtwara, Unguja, and Pemba.
There is the likelihood of floods and disruptions to economic activities in these regions and urges proactive measures to mitigate potential impacts.
As such, TMA urges residents and authorities in the affected regions to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to safeguard lives and property from the anticipated heavy rainfall and its associated effects.
