MOROGORO: THE government has expressed commitment to continue improving and strengthening the business environment by undertaking economic and industrial reforms to bring about sustainable development in the country.
This was said by the Minister for Industry and Trade, Dr Ashatu Kijaji during the opening of the induction session of the ministry’s heads of departments with the investments of Regional Secretariats and Local Government Authorities held in Morogoro on Monday.
Dr Kijaji said that Tanzania’s efforts are to create good relations with business people to promote the national economy.
“The world has entered the fourth industrial revolution which is based on the increased use of technology and the urgency of service delivery,” Dr Kijaji emphasised.
Dr Kijaji urged the participants to sit together and discuss the future by reminding their responsibilities to implement policies, laws, regulations as well as procedures related to business and industry in their councils.
“Knowing that you have been trusted to lead the departments in the industry, trade and investment in your jurisdictions, we can interpret and understand together your responsibilities and the expectations of why the departments were established,” she said.
On his part, the Permanent Secretary President’s Office of Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), Mr Adolph Ndunguru said that the government’s development plan is aimed to bring the country to a competitive economy and improve the markets for products produced in the country.
“We want to make sure what we produce is sold but also to increase productivity in investment so that our plan to create a competitive economy is successful on a large scale,” Ndunguru said.
Initially, the Business Registration and Licensing Agency (BRELA) Chief Executive Officer Mr Godfrey Nyaisa said the working session is aimed at building understanding among the heads of sections and departments of Industry, Trade and Investment from Regional Authorities and Local Governments.
“Here we are building mutual understanding about the laws, rules and procedures for the registration and issuance of licences managed by BRELA and how we can cooperate in carrying out the duties of promoting the business and investment sector in the country,” said Nyaisa.
The two-day working session was attended by more than 200 participants from the heads of the departments of Industry, Trade and Investment in the Regional Secretariats and Local Government Authorities as well as the heads of the Institutions under the Ministry and Directors from the PORALG.
