ZANZIBAR: PRESIDENT Hussein Ali Mwinyi is scheduled to officiate the official closing of the biennial Commonwealth Law Ministers Meeting (CLMM), today.
The five-day meeting here made different deliberations during the in-camera sessions.
According to statement signed by Commonwealth Media Officials, Mr Snober Abbasi and Ms Khadija Khamis Faraji, the media will today also be briefed on what transpired in the meeting.
Hosted by the union government, the CLMM focused on the theme ‘Technology and Innovation: How digitalisation paves the way for the development of people-centred access to justice.
”The opening of the meeting last Monday was graced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan who emphasised on the use of the growing digitalisation to improve access to justice in commonwealth member countries. During the five-Day meeting, law ministers and attorneys-general from across 56 Commonwealth countries discussed recent legal developments in their jurisdictions and explored responses to emerging justice issues affecting their citizens.
“Participants of the CLMM covered a wide range of issues, including digital assets, electronic resources for efficient legal systems, the protection of women and girls, strengthened access to justice for people with disabilities and developments in climate policy and legislation,” the note to the media reads.
According to the statement, the key focus was on examining responsible ways to leverage technology to improve law and access to justice, especially for marginalised people.
“We hope that the outcomes from the meeting will advance mandates from Commonwealth Heads of Government Meetings. Meanwhile Zanzibar President, Dr Hussein Mwinyi is toady expected to preside over the swearing-in of Principal Secretaries (PS) and deputy PS he recently appointed in the mini reshuffle.
