Traffic jams at Nyerere Bridge toll plaza in Kigamboni is inevitable especially during rush hours when people crosses the cable-stayed bridge of its own in East Africa.

The 680-metre bridge connects Temeke District’s ward of Kurasini from the east to the west of Kigamboni District’s ward Vijibweni.

In the morning, the jam is huge for those people leaving Kigamboni to the other side and it becomes vice-versa in the evening.

The toll bridge offers an alternative transport link to and from Kigamboni District aside using the Kivukoni route where ferries provide the crossing services.

The magnificent bridge is named after the country’s first President Julius Nyerere and consists of six lanes-three on each direction.

It also has two pedestrians/cyclists’ lanes one on each side that helps people to easily cross to the other end.
