Poland to boost cooperation in tourism, investments

DAR ES SALAAM: PRESIDENT of Poland Andrzej Duda has expressed his country’s

readiness to enhance cooperation with Tanzania, particularly in the development of tourism sector and increase Polish investments in the country.

President Duda expressed commitment in his remarks at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Friday shortly after holding bilateral talks with President Samia Suluhu Hassan, which were followed by a joint press conference.

“I am pleased to announce that Poland is eager to bolster cooperation with Tanzania in various sectors, including tourism and investment,” President Duda stated.

He added: “A significant group of Polish entrepreneurs has shown keen interest in collaborating on modern industry ventures, such as urban infrastructure, water resources management, digital banking systems, as well as information and telecommunications technologies.” Mr Duda, along with his spouse Agata Kornhauser Duda, accompanied by a delegation, embarked on a tour of three African countries—Tanzania, Kenya, and Rwanda—from February 5 to February 9.

The tour aims to strengthen political, economic, and military ties between Poland and East African nations. Highlighting the historical ties between Poland and Tanzania, President Duda emphasised the enduring interpersonal bond between the two nations.

He recalled the hospitality extended to 7,000 Polish refugees, who sought refuge in Tanzania during World War II, which left a lasting impression of gratitude within the Polish community.

The Polish Head of State expressed appreciation for the maintenance of cemeteries where Polish compatriots were laid to rest, citing it as a interest in contributing to Tanzania’s development.

He emphasised that Polish companies offer worldclass solutions in modern industry and technology sectors. In extending an invitation to President Samia for an official visit to Poland, President Duda highlighted the importance of reciprocal visits by the Heads of State in strengthening economic ties and fostering mutual investments.

President Duda also extended an invitation to Tanzanian youth to pursue their studies in Poland, emphasising key sectors such as the creative mining industry, geology, and information technology. In his statement, President Duda expressed Poland’s commitment to supporting Tanzania in preparing its youth for roles in the exploration and exploitation of natural resources.

“We want to support Tanzania in preparing youth who will later be able to properly exploit natural resources available and ensure that they benefit Tanzanians,” he noted.

President Duda’s invitation aligns with Tanzania’s efforts to empower its youth and enhance human capital development in strategic sectors of the economy.
