Domestic travelers urged to revive tourism

BAGAMOYO: TANZANIA National Parks Authority (TANAPA) has appealed to Tanzanians to embrace domestic travel, explore new experiences and contribute to the

growth of the local tourism industry.

The Eastern Zone Conservation Commander Gibril Mwishawa made the plea over the weekend while at Saadani National Park located in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region.

The Tanzania National Parks Authority (TANAPA) supervises four administrative zones and the Eastern Zone which includes Saadan, Nyerere, Mikumi and Udizungwa national parks.

Mr Mwishawa said if the community developed a culture of visiting tourist attractions, they would learn new experiences which include existing natural resources which are the heritage of the nation.

“In the parks, there are different types of attractions including wild animals (lions, elephants and many others), people should visit and see those so that they can see the heritage of the world and animal cultures,” said Mr Mwishawa

He said in Saadani which is bordered by the sea, people will be able to see wild animals as well as the areas where the river water interacts with the sea as well as several hippos living in those areas.

He noted that the authority has already identified the areas of investment and various applications have been sent, including the Saadan National Park, to promote tourism in the Eastern Zone Reserves.

Assistant Commissioner for Business Development (Tanapa), Ms Jully Lyimo, said Sadaani is a good area because it has attractions for game drive, walking tours, night tours, beach tours and boats.

Ms Lyimo called on Tanzanians to use the Saadani National Park for various activities including weddings and other celebrations.
