Doctor: “Why Women Shouldn’t Rush for Plastic Surgery”

 Esther Takwa

DAR ES SALAAM: A plastic surgeon in Dar es Salaam has urged women who wish to undergo surgeries to improve different parts of their bodies, including breasts, to ensure that...

they have completed childbirth before seeking the service; otherwise, they will face health complications.

In an exclusive interview with the Daily News Digital, Dr. Edward Wayi of Comprehensive Community Based Rehabilitation in Tanzania (CCBRT) stated that women who undergo services such as removal of fat from the stomach (‘Tummy Tuck’) and placing it on the thighs and other parts of the body, enlarging or reducing breasts, might find it difficult to conceive or breastfeed, respectively.

He advises women to pursue such services only after completing their reproductive goals.

“A woman who no longer intends to give birth will be suitable for surgery to reduce her tummy because we don’t expect her to become pregnant afterward. Once a person undergoes Tummy Tuck surgery, it is difficult for them to conceive because the space in the stomach will be reduced,” Dr. Wayi said.

He added, “Those who want to undergo breast modifications, whether enlarging or reducing their breasts, should ensure that they have finished breastfeeding because during breast surgery, milk production stimulants are removed.
