Dar Port activities satisfying-committee

DAR ES SALAAM: The Committee on Communication, Trade and Investment of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) has expressed its satisfaction with the efficiency of

the work done at the Dar es Salaam Port, saying it will stimulate economic activities in the economic corridors in the bloc.

Leading the delegations in Dar es Salaam, a committee member, Rutazana Francine during the team’s visit to the port to monitor efficiency, further said the state of revenue collection as well as stimulating relations in terms of trade between member countries was satisfactory.

Ms Rutazana pointed that the possibility of increasing the commercial scope in and outside the community will be possible once the member countries closely cooperate in developing the economy.

On his part, a Committee member who is also a Member of Parliament of the EAC Parliament from Kenya, David Ole Sankok praised Tanzania saying it is vital to focus on the port sector, adding that the country is blessed with many resources that can stimulate the blue economy.

EALA is conducting oversight activities to assess the effectiveness and efficiencies in the operations of the ports of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam, which started from February 04 to 09, 2024 aimed at evaluating the customs’ management, cargo clearance, and making recommendations to the Council of Ministers for improvements.

According to EALA, the Committee is undertaking the activities in two groups with one led by Suleiman Shahbal visiting the Port of Mombasa and the other headed by Rutazana Francine camping at the Dar Port.
