DAR ES SALAAM: The government has merged 16 public institutions and abolished four others in a bid to enhance efficiency.
Professor Kitila Mkumbo, the Minister of State in the President’s Office (Planning and Investment), announced the state’s decision in Dar es Salaam on Friday, stating that the move aims to strengthen public institutions and enhance their contribution to the country’s economy.
He added that this decision comes a few months after the government formed a team of experts to conduct an in-depth analysis of the performance of public organizations, identify practical challenges, and recommend measures to increase the productivity of the country’s development.
“Following the information and recommendations of the expert team, the government has approved and directed the merging of 16 institutions and the cancellation of four public institutions,” the minister said.
Merged Institutions:
The National Identification Authority (NIDA) + the Registration, Insolvency and Trusteeship Agency (RITA) to form a Single Identification Number.
The Tanzania Agricultural Development Bank (TADB) + Agricultural Inputs Trust Fund (AGIT) to form one institution responsible for loans and funding for agricultural development.
Tea Board + the Tea Small Holdings Development Authority (TSHDA) board to form one Tea Board.
Meat Board + Milk Board to form a single institution responsible for developing and managing livestock products, including meat and milk.
Centre of Agricultural Mechanization and Rural Technologies (CARMARTEC) + Tanzania Engineering and Manufacturing Design Organization (TEMDO) + Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO).
Tea Research Institute of Tanzania (TRIT) + Tobacco Research Institute of Tanzania (TORITA) + the Tanzania Coffee Research Institute (TaCRI) to be part of Tanzania Agricultural Research Institute (TARI).
Cancelled Institutions:
Tanzania Food and Nutrition Centre (TFNC)
Tanzania Police Force Corporation Sole (TPFCS)
Kibaha Education Center (KEC).
Cereal and Other Produce Regulatory Authority (COPRA)
