“TIME flies! this twentieth anniversary just marks a good start for CRJE’s service in Zanzibar.

I would like to take this opportunity to wish all dis- tinguished guests good health and happy life. I sincerely wish CRJE and the people of Zanzibar a long-lasting friendship and everlasting success. Thank you”.

These were words of Zhao Yufeng, Managing Director of CRJE (East Africa) Lim- ited during a colorful gather- ing to celebrate CRJE’s 20 years of successful services in Zanzibar. CRJE (EAST AFRICA) LIMITED is a member of China Railway Group Com- pany in China, and is the lead- ing class One building and civil contractor registered in Tanzania and Kenya.

The celebration, which attracted senior officers from the Zanzibar government and other development partners and beneficiaries of the investment in the Isles, was held at the Park Hyatt Hotel in the Stone Town.

“Twenty years – a span of time that has seen growth, challenges and triumphs. CRJE has stood firm, guided by the principles of innovation, cooperation, sustain- ability, openness and shared success,” Mr Yufeng said, adding “Today, as we gather to celebrate two decades of achievements, let us reflect on the journey that brought us here and look forward to the promising future ahead.”

He proudly informed the audience that CRJE has consistently prioritised quality and performance, and that in the last twenty years, CRJE successfully completed 35 projects in Zanzibar, includ- ing seven hotels, 14 schools, three hospitals, six office buildings and other infra- structure projects.

Mr Xu Cheng, CRJE Country Director, explained “None of this would have been possible without the support of government lead- ers, esteemed clients and partners.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you.” He said that their determination and intelligence have guided CRJE to this wonderful success, and additionally thanked the employees for their hard work and dedication that has contributed to CRJE’s achievements over the past 20 years.

“They are the true protag- onists of our celebration this time,” he said. Mr Cheng said “As we move forward, let us continue to embody the spirit of unity and collaboration that has defined CRJE.

Zanzibar is not just a location for our proj- ects; it’s our shared home.

Therefore, let us stand to- gether, shoulder to shoulder, as we work towards a brighter future for Zanzibar.”

The construction com- pany also boasts of its pres- ence in the United Republic of Tanzania since the 1960s when it took part in the construction of the Tanzania-Zambia Railway, a bi- national railway linking the Southern Africa Regional transport network to Eastern Africa’s seaport of Dar es Salaam, offering both freight and passenger transportation services between and within Tanzania and Zambia.

He explained that in the past two decades in Zanzibar, its work in the archipelago has been fascinating, setting up well-reputed brand by successfully and safely com- pleting different projects, including the building of the First Vice President’s Office and the new building for the Zanzibar Revenue Authority (ZRA) Headquarters, the Ministry of Constitution, Legal Affairs, Public Service and Good Governance, several luxury hotels, including the Residence, Park Hyatt, and Melia-Zanzibar, hospi- tals in several districts and ZSSF Michenzani Mall.

Mr Cheng mentioned that during the period of service in Zanzibar, the company also made its contribution to the local community.

“We have provided nu- merous jobs and trained a large number of technicians and purchased construction materials locally, which is among the Isles’ government initiatives to promote local content and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR),” he said.

He said further that during disasters, CRJE is never behind, and it has participated in rescue services, including the 2011 boat tragedy in Zanzibar which claimed many lives.

In addition, he says the company also celebrates years of charity work, in- cluding making donations to cultural heritage buildings, providing school kits for children and presenting supplies to the Zanzibar Maisha Bora Foundation (ZMBF).

The ZMBF was established by Zanzibar’s First Lady, Maryam Mwinyi with the aim of supporting the development of women and children in regards to health and economic empowerment.

During the anniversary celebrations, the Chinese company won praise from the event’s chief guest, the Minister for Health, Nassor Ahmed Mazrui.

“I commend CRJE for its contribution to the develop- ment of Zanzibar in various areas, mainly their admirable performance in the implementation of projects in a win-win situation,” he said.

Mr Zhang Zhi Sheng, the Chinese Consul General to Zanzibar, said at the event that CRJE is a Chinese lead- ing state-owned engineering company that has carried out many projects in China and around the world, including Tanzania mainland and Zanzibar, making significant contributions to the development of China and other countries.

Zhang praised the Zanzibar government for the support it has been extending to CRJE during its operations in the past two decades, while CRJE employees led by Rajabu Ali Mohamed thanked the government for maintaining good relations with foreign companies which create jobs for young people.

The Consul General said that companies from China have been working hard because of the good leadership of President of the People’s Republic of China, Xi Jinping who said recently said at the opening ceremony of the ‘Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation’ held in China, “We have learned that humankind is a community with a shared future.

China can only do well when the world is doing well. When China does well, the world will get even better.”
