THE value of the National Society Social Security Fund (NSSF) has reached 6.87tri/- by March 2023, up from 4.7tri/- in 2021, the Fund’s Acting Director General Mr Robert Kadege has said.

Mr Kadege released the statistics on Wednesday, while addressing journalists at the...

ongoing 47th Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF) at Mwalimu Julius Nyerere Trade Fair grounds with the theme, ‘Tanzania a safer place for business and investment’.

“In March 2021 the value of the Fund was 4.7tri/-, you will see how the fund is growing rapidly in just two years of the sixth phase government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan,” he said.

Mr Kadege said that through the Royal Tour film, Tanzania tourism has been widely promoted especially in Northern Circuit the fact created more jobs and thus the number of new NSSF members increased.

“Tourism employs a good number of Tanzanians and majority are NSSF members and we project to continue seeing an upward trend,” he said.

He also mentioned the implementation of mega projects that have created employments and therefore, it has been an opportunity for the Fund to register new members.

He gave an example of the construction of the East African Crude Oil Pipeline Project (EACOP) where a good number of workers are being engaged from Kagera Region to Chongoleani in Tanga Region.

EACOP is a pipeline project that will transport oil produced from Uganda’s Lake Albert oilfields to the port of Tanga in Tanzania where the oil will then be sold onwards to world markets.

Speaking about the participation in the 47th DITF, NSSF’s Manager for Kigamboni in Dar es Salaam Ms Judith Kibara said has been an important platform the Fund to provide education about social security to its members from private sector.

“When we talk of the private sector, we include formal but also informal sector such as motorcycle riders popularly known as ‘bodaboda’, autoriskshaws (Bajaj) riders and food vendors,” she said.”

Testifying on how the Fund is benefiting its members, a member of the Fund Ms Elizabeth Mwamuya, “NSSF has made me see the light of my life, my mother was bed ridden due to illness, but following the medical care she received through the medical benefit now my mother is in good condition,” she praised.
