In the report, the brewer revealed that citizens from the three East African member states - Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda - spent Ksh109.4 billion to buy various alcoholic brands it produces. According to the company, this amount is a 27 per cent increase in the net sale recorded in the previous year.
“EABL has reported Ksh.109.4 billion in net sales for the full year ended June 30, 2022, representing a 27 per cent growth compared to the same period last year,” the company said in the report.
The overall amount of money alcohol spent on the drinks is however likely to go higher than the net sale EABL recorded if the net sales of other brewers in the country are put into consideration.
Other than EABL which enjoys the largest market share in the country, there are some other commercial brewers and microbreweries which would likely push the overall amount of money spent on hard drinks to the higher side.
Though these brewers produce a wide variety of products ranging from beer to spirits, and malt among others, beer remained the most preferred drink among Kenyans.
The report released by EABL showed that of its various brands, it is a beer that recorded the strongest performance in the market by recording a 27 per cent growth in the sale.
“EABL’s largest market, Kenya delivered 30 per cent net sale growth, mainly on the back of strong beer recovery and continued growth in spirits,” it said.
