The Chairman of Access Bank Plc, Ajortisedere Awosika, has said that the bank’s support for the
Lagos City Marathon is in line with its strategic objective of attracting foreign investors to Nigeria.According to her, the event is one of the gateways to Africa and aligns with the bank’s plan to make the continent more attractive to global investors and trade partners.
She stated that the bank intends to take its relationship with sports global and that it would achieve the goal in five years.
The last event saw Geleta Ulfata of Ethiopia emerge as the winner of the 42km men’s race. Ulfata beat about 300 marathoners to claim the grand prize of $30,000. David Barmasai and Emmanuel Naibei — both from Kenya — finished second and third, with prizes of $20,000 and $15,000, respectively.
Ethiopia’s Dagne Siranesh Yirga was the first woman to cross the finish line in 2 hours, 33 minutes and 50 seconds. She was followed in second place by Alemenseh Guta and Kenya’s Naomi Maiyo in second and third places. The trio went home with $30,000, $20,000 and $15,000 respectively.
