Kenya Power Kicks Off Search For New Managing Director

Electricity distributor Kenya Power has kicked-off the search for a new Managing Director.

The firm has incorporated consultancy firm Deloitte in the recruitment process with the

company expected to receive applications for the post from interested candidates by February 28.

The sought after MD is expected to replace Bernard Ngugi who abruptly resigned from the company on August 4 last year after barely two years at the helm.

Ngugi was replaced on an interim basis by Kenya Power’s General Manager for Commercial Services and Sales Eng. Rosemary Oduor.

The unprecedented exit of Ngugi was preceded by pressure to turn the firm’s fortunes.

Ngugi was appointed Managing Director in October of 2019 replacing the acting Jared Othieno who had taken over from Ken Tarus.

Tarus had been charged alongside his predecessor Ben Chumo over conspiracy to commit economic crimes and abuse of office.

Kenya Power’s new Managing Director will be tasked with spearheading the drive to improve the company’s operational efficiency and service delivery as envisioned in the firm’s new direction.

The new MD will step into the firm in the middle of what are ongoing reforms at Kenya Power to improve both its business performance and service delivery to customers.

Earlier this month, the utility company trimmed its commercial and technical losses, opening the door for the much publicised 15 per cent cut to electricity tariffs.

The company is further expected to take centre stage in the quest for cheaper electricity for Kenyans with the Ministry of Energy now set to mid-wife talks between the utility and independent power producers (IPPs) on the review of power purchase agreements (PPAs)
