The hotelier which operators the Coral Beach Hotel and Peninsula Hotel in Dar es Salaam said that the voluntary exercise that took them two months.

According to the group’s managing director, Mr Jean Marc Ah-Foo they were encouraged by the availability of the vaccines in the country and the Government’s plan to get 60 per cent of Tanzanians vaccinated.

“Hospitality employees are like front-line workers due to risks associated with our regular interactions with foreign and domestic customers. It is important that we educate our staff on the importance of protecting themselves from COVID-19 variants,” said Mr Ah-Foo.

He said building trust was a very critical element for the success of the vaccination drive.

“We hosted a series of open discussion employees ‘town hall’ meetings with doctors and arranged staff transportation to hospitals and vaccination centre where necessary,” he said.

Vaccinated employees were presented with a ‘I’m COVID-19 Vaccinated’ badge and served as role models for their peers.

According to him, accelerating the distribution and adoption of vaccinations is critical for the recovery of hospitality business in a city like Dar es Salaam, a city that attracted growing numbers of MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences, and exhibitions) travelers before the outbreak of the pandemic.

“Hotels have to be ready to provide a higher level of care and safety for guests. Vaccination in addition to the already existing protective protocols are an indication of assurance and quality of care”.

The drive has not stopped with the employees as the hotel group plans to encourage third party contract workers and suppliers to join its efforts as well as extend support to employees’ family members to get the jab.

Mr. Ah Foo added: We are a people serving people business and so it is our responsibility to take action to support this goal.
