As part of activities to mark the 2021 Global Sustainability Week, employees of Dangote Group, have donated food items and other products to the aged and physically challenged children.
The donations were made in Lagos, at the Pacelli School for the Blind and the Lagos State-owned Old People’s Home.
Items donated include bags of rice, beans, semovita, noodles and beverages, among others.
Speaking on the initiative, Head, Sustainability, Dangote Group, Eunice Sampson said the theme of the yearly programme: ‘Building a Sustainable Future – The Dangote Way’, which began from September 27 to end on September 30, is driven by employee volunteering.
She noted that all the operations of the group across Africa are implementing various initiatives that are aimed at empowering their host communities and ensuring a sustainable present and future for the conglomerate.
She added that: “We have set aside this week to create awareness about the need for good neighbourliness and we will also be promoting environmental responsibility, social responsibility and good governance in all our operations.”
The Manager, Old People’s Home, Oluwafunmilayo Adekola commended the group for the gesture and for supporting the Lagos State Government.
Similarly, the Principal of Pacelli School for the Blind and Partially Insighted Children, Sister Jane Onyeneri, while appreciating the gesture, said the school, which has been in existence since 1964, provides quality and free education to the pupils and students through people’s goodwill and donations.
