  • Speaking to an ABC publication, Musyoka's wife Hannah Ege said she blamed the office of the district attorney for the release of the suspect identified as Jerry Lyons, who was out on post-release community supervision and had an extensive criminal history.

The suspect, Lyons, was speeding in a stolen vehicle when the crash happened killing Musyoka who was out jogging.

"This freak accident was no freak accident. It was someone who was out in the public who should not have been out in public," Hannah said.

Sheria had told Hannah in the past that in the event he were to die, he would wish for his demise to be impactful.

"He always followed that up with if I were to die, if I was the next hashtag, I just want my death to be impactful and I want it to be a movement. I don't want to just be a hashtag, I want my name to be change. If I'm going to go that way," she told the media.

By the time of publishing, the family had raised Ksh 8 million of the Ksh 10 million needed to cover memorial expenses as well as the relocation of Sheria’s wife and son. The balance will be used to start a foundation in honour of Sheria.

The deceased was an old boy of Alliance High School, an Equity Scholar, and Dartmouth University alumnus.

Days before his death, the young family had just moved to San Francisco from Connecticut.

"We really wanted to be in the city, it was really important for me to be in the city. I wanted diversity, I wanted my son to grow up with others that looked like him. There were a lot of opportunities he could have in San Francisco and we were so excited. Our first week here was heaven. We were so happy to be here to be on our own,” Hannah narrated.

The wife says she began worrying after Musyoka failed to return home after he went out for a jog. She would later try to reach him, but the calls went unanswered as did the texts.

She told the media that she set out to look for her husband in the neighbourhood, and that's when she saw the accident scene and learned that her husband had been killed.

Former Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama visited Sheria’s rural home in Kitui on Saturday, February 6, 2021, to pass his message of condolences.

Sheria was killed alongside one Hana Abe who is said to be of Asian origin.

“Hana Abe and Sheria Musyoka, remember their names. They came to America full of dreams. They were killed by serial offenders set free by D.A. Chesa Boudin. No wonder most Californians say the American Dream is dead,” an American entrepreneur tweeted following the incident.
