The coastal routes have accounted for 65 percent of the total promotional tickets that budget carrier Jambojet offered to its customers on domestic flights.
The carrier says 70 percent of the 10,000 seats that had been offered at Sh2,100 for a one-way ticket have so far been filled, with coastal routes accounting for the bulk of those seeking to travel.
The airline said the 70 percent of the offer had been purchased as at noon on Wednesday, signifying high number of people who would want to travel at a lower cost.
“We offered a total of 10,000 seats at Sh2,100 distributed across our local destinations. As at noon Wednesday, over 70 percent of the seats had been taken with the coastal destinations being the most popular,” said Titus Oboogi, Jambojet head of sales and marketing.
“We are pleased with the uptake so far and will continuously focus on new and innovative ways of creating memorable experiences in the entire customer value chain,” he added.
The sale period was running from January 5 to January 7 for the travel period between January 11 to March 20 this year.
The offer comes at a time when schools are opening and people are returning to work after the December and th New Year holidays, coinciding with a mad rush on the roads that has seen fares to places like western Kenya rise to as high as Sh2,000.
Air tickets have dropped significantly this January compared with the December rates as the demand for flying dips.
Domestic airfares have dropped to a low of Sh2,800 for a one-way ticket as demand for flying plummets after a rush period during Christmas week that saw price tickets rise to a high of Sh16,000.
