Increased bookings and high demand of passengers seeking air travel has seen airlines enhance their frequencies to meet high numbers of travellers. Kisumu has two flights sold out on Christmas eve with fares soaring to a high of 15,100 for a one way ticket to the lakeside town, which is nearly thrice what a person would pay on low season.

Skyward Express has also recorded high booking with no tickets for today to coastal city of Mombasa.

Airlines had said earlier that they expect to record improved business this holiday season in what would set stage for expensive tickets.

Safarilink chief executive officer Alex Avedi said they have recorded fully bookings on some days this December, pointing out that business might not be that gloomy even as the country still struggles with cases of covid-19 that has reduced demand for flying.

The airlines had grounded their aircraft in March following the outbreak of Covid-19 in Kenya as the government moved in to put in place containment measures to curb the spread. The carriers resumed operations in July and the demand for passengers have gradually been growing as passengers develop confidence in flying.
