Launch of Competitive Business Challenge for Kakuma and Kalobeyei Challenge Fund to attract the private sector to refugee hosting areas of Turkana County, Kenya, and create jobs for refugees and host communities

NAIROBI, Kenya, November 3, 2020/ -- AECF (http://www.AECFAfrica.org/), and its partners IFC,
Turkana County, and UNHCR, will on November 10th officially launch the competitive business challenge of Kakuma Kalobeyei Challenge Fund (KKFC) to support investment, development, and job creation in the Kakuma refugee camp and Kalobeyei integrated settlement in north western Kenya.Innovative businesses from around the world will be invited to submit proposals for private sector development projects in Kakuma and Kalobeyei areas, home to 250,000 people including 196,000 refugees from several African countries. The fund will allocate performance-based grants to the winning projects, which will be announced by Q2 2021.
The virtual media briefing will focus on the upcoming launch of the first two competition windows and IFC’s broader development work in Kakuma and in fragile and conflict-affected situations in Africa.
The KKCF is jointly implemented by IFC and AECF, in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and Kenya’s Turkana County Government. It is supported by the European Union, KfW, SDC, FCDO and the government of the Netherlands.
