Nyeri and Laikipia county governments have signed a cross-border operations deal to enhance service delivery.

Laikipia governor Nderitu Murithi and his Nyeri counterpart Mutahi Kahiga said this will ensure seamless provision of services to people living near the border of the two counties.

The partnership is meant to prioritise joint programmes between the two counties as well as explore co-operation and joint planning.

In the meeting attended by all executive committee members from both counties, the governors agreed to share resources and allow for joint development which they said has been slowed down by the boundary.

The executives were tasked with taking all the measures to ensure efficient service delivery to the people in both counties.

Mr Muriithi said the region is highly productive in agriculture and the agreement is a bridge to ensure the counties’ economy continues to grow and benefit the residents. He said the agreement will greatly ease provision of services.

“When we require services they should come from the person who is closest ther,” he said.

“We are the only ones who know about the boundary but people out there are the same, the people from Laikipia come to do business in Nyeri and viceversa and if we are not wise, we will deny our people services in the name of a boundary,” said Mr Kahiga
