Deputy President William Ruto (pictured) yesterday defended the
proposal for Kenya Airways (KQ) to take over the management of Jomo
Kenyatta International Airport from Kenya Airports Authority (KAA).
He accused Parliament of seeking to stop the deal in its initial stages.
According to the DP, KQ is a national carrier and it would be
irresponsible for the Government to allow it to go down when there are
options to help it recover from financial challenges.

It is unfair that even before we start, the MPs are coming up with all manner of allegations to stop it,” Dr Ruto said during the launch of the annual State of the Judiciary and the Administration of Justice Report at the Supreme Court building. Speaking later in the day in Bunambo, Tongaren constituency, during the homecoming ceremony for John Chikati, Ruto said the Government was not ready to let the national carrier be sold to private investors as it was a source of pride and revenue to the country. Dr Chikati is a deputy secretary in charge of strategy in the DP's office. Strategic engagement "We have elaborate plans for Kenya Airways and Kenya Airports Authority which should be put in a strategic engagement so that one can complement the other," Ruto said. Two House teams -Transport, Public Works and Housing Committee and the Public Investments Committee - have been conducting parallel investigations into the matter.
