StarTimes Kenya Thursday announced the
appointment of Andy Wang as its
new Chief Executive Officer. He will oversee operations of the pay
television company with a core mandate of growing the company’s
subscriber base and sustaining retention in an ever increasingly
competitive industry.
Wang will double up as the regional director based in Kenya overseeing
seven countries including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi,
Ethiopia, Zambia and Malawi.
The new management structure presents an opportunity to create synergy
across the brand’s operations in the region as StarTimes progressively
make inroads in consumer and corporate business.
Speaking during his introduction, Wang noted his delight in taking up
the new role in Kenya given the country’s vibrant economy and a dynamic
subscriber base at a time when the business is equally focusing on
innovation to build on the traditional business with the introduction of
StarTimes ON mobile app that enables users to access television on the
go.
“It is a great pleasure to oversee the Kenyan operations and especially
at this time when we are keen to strengthen our terrestrial and
satellite television service while growing the over the top (OTT)
business, our online video streaming service known as StarTimes ON. Am
(sic) optimistic that moving forward, StarTimes will establish better,
relevant and affordable propositions to our subscribers in Kenya and the
region,” noted Wang.
Andy has over ten years’ experience in business management having
previously been the Chief Executive in Uganda and equally held other
managerial positions in Malawi.
StarTimes has also appointed Aldrine Nsubuga as the regional marketing
director who will oversee the marketing activities across the seven
countries.
StarTimes offers pay television service to the Kenyan subscribers with a
wide content variety including local drama, sports, telenovelas,
documentaries, kids content among others.
