TANZANIA Airports Authority (TAA) was yesterday given a one-week ultimatum to identify and punish employees who deceitfully received plots, which were allocated to the Kipawa evictees.

Works, Transport and Communications Deputy Minister Engineer Atashasta Nditiye charged that some dishonest TAA workers poised as wananchi who vacated their houses to pave way for construction of Julius Nyerere International Airport (JNIA) terminal III.
The deputy minister accused the TAA employees of deceitfully acquiring the land, which was reserved as compensation to the evictees. He said initial investigations have shown that some of the dishonest workers inserted their names in the list of the then Kipawa and Kigilagila dwellers who were relocated to Pugu Mwakanga area in Ilala District.
Engineer Nditiye was speaking during his tour of TAA office to follow up on implementation of his directives to the authority some months ago. One of his instructions was improvement of all airports, including eviction of people residing near airports for smooth expansion projects.
“After surrendering their plots, there should be arrangements to compensate the rightful people, I have been told that over 600 Kipunguni residents who deserved compensation have not been given the plots, give them land and punish those who acquired them deceitfully,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Engineer Nditiye instructed TAA management to form an estate department with at least 10 people to help the authority in obtaining the title deeds for all airports across the country. He as well instructed the fencing of all airports in the country.
TAA Director General Richard Mayongela said that 537 out of 1,186 Kipunguni residents were expected to move to their new settlement at Msongola area, effective next week. He said that about 3.7bn/- was spent as compensation to 537 evictees.
“Tanzania Remix Centre won the plot survey tender…we, in collaboration with the municipal authorities, will next week go for final inspection of the survey work,” he said.
