A
10 year old pupil, Holo Balinda of Bangwe Primary School in Tanganyika
District, Katavi Region died on the spot after the speeding ambulance
which was rushing him to hospital for treatment veered off the road and
overturned.
The
Katavi Regional Police Commander (RPC), Mr Damas Nyanda confirmed the
incident but declined to identify the name of the ambulance driver who
dissapeared after the tragedy, prompting a manhunt by the police force.
Narrating
the incident, Mr Nyanda told the ‘Sunday News’ over the phone that the
accident occurred on Friday at around 8:00 pm at Magamba Village, about
ten kilometres from Mpanda Town.
According
to the RPC, the father of the deceased child, Ngosha Balinda who was
travelling in the same vehicle and taking care of his boy cheated death
by a whisker.
The
RPC further said that the over speeding ambulance was heading to Mbeya
via Sumbawanga Town in Rukwa Region from Mpanda Municipal health
facility in Mpanda Town, when the ill –fated Land Cruiser ambulance
vehicle belonged to the municipal hospital was involved in the accident.
“The
ambulance that was carrying the patient was rushing to Mbeya as the
deceased patient was taken for referral treatment from Mpanda Municipal
Hospital where he was hospitalised for treatment.
