THE
first ever world class beauty pageant to be innovated in Tanzania –
Miss Journalism World has been launched by the Minister for Information,
Culture, Arts and Sports, Harisson Mwakyembe.
At
an event that took place over the weekend at Naura Springs Hotel,
Mwakyembe hailed the innovative Tanzanian youth who came up with the
idea, Samwel Malugu, saying his innovation would be a very important
promotion for Tanzania and its resources.
Mwakyembe,
in a speech read on his behalf by Permanent Secretary in the ministry,
Suzan Mlawi, said not even in Africa a single beauty pageant with world
standard had been invented prior to that, saying it would be a huge
millage for Tanzania.
He
hailed organisers, Skyfree International Company and Miss Journalism
World Committee that is under the former Arusha City Executive Director,
Athumani Kihamia who is now the Director of Elections with the National
Electoral Commission (NEC) and Arusha City Mayor, Calist Lazaro.
He
said Miss Journalism World proudly joins the other only six known
international pageants, naming them as Miss World invented in the UK in
1951; Miss Universe (The USA – 1952); Miss International (Japan -1960);
Miss Tourism World (Malaysia -1994); Miss Earth (The Philippines – 2001
and Miss Grand International that was innovated in Thailand in 2013.
Miss
Journalism World seeks to link beauty and journalism professions in
sensitising a culture of peace and international cooperation.
He
called upon media houses to join hands with organisers in publicising
things that could bring people together and foster peace in the world.
