THE
Minister of Home Affairs, Mr Kangi Lugola, has issued a four-month
ultimatum to the owner of Lugumi Enterprises, Mr Said Lugumi, to
finalize the installation of electronic fingerprint machines at district
police stations or else the businessman will be dragged to the
Economic, Corruption and Organised Crimes Court for occasioning loss to
the government.
This
comes a week after the Minister summoned the businessman to report to
his office in Dodoma, as among initiatives to leave no stone unturned in
a bid to bring sanity to the vital ministry.
Having
hit the ground running from day one, the on fire minister has made some
bold decisions that sent shock waves into the ministry, signaling the
end of business as usual era which includes this issue among others.
He
issued the directive in Dar es Salaam, yesterday after he met with
Lugumi citing that the issue was among those irritating President
Magufuli.
Mr
Lugola observed the move to summon the businessman to report to his
office is to ensure no government money is lost out of nothing.
According
to the Minister, Lugumi willingly reported to his office at around 8am
without any further push as it was directed of him. Intensive discussion
and interrogation transpired, based on the requirement of the project.
In
his previous directives, Mr Lugola had required the Inspector General
of Police (IGP) Simon Sirro to search for the company owner and take him
to his office on July 31, this year, based on the controversial 37bn/-
contract between the Tanzania Police Force and Lugumi Enterprises
Limited.
Mr
Lugola disclosed that he came to learn that the company has not yet
completed its work, thus it was important to meet with the owner to know
the reasons for failing to finish its work.
