KILOMBERO Sugar Company Limited (KSC) has introduced smaller sugar packs aimed at reaching a wider market at affordable prices.
The
KSC Commercial Director, Mr Fimbo Butala said at the launch event held
in Dar es Salaam over the weekend that the initiative came as response
to customers’ quest for the product packed in smaller packs.
“KSC
has been strategising on ways which ‘Bwana Sukari’ product can reach
more consumers particularly low income earners countrywide at affordable
prices,” he said mentioning 350gm and 160gm dubbed as ‘Robo Plus and
Booster’ respectively.
He
said the new sugar packs will cater for a wider demographic and attract
more consumers in need of sugar but cannot afford bigger packs.
The new packs are retailed starting with the lowest price of 500/- and 1,000/- for Robo Plus and Booster respectively.
“With
the new packs, we are giving consumers the option of buying sugar in
smaller quantities, at affordable prices and yet pre-packed in hygienic
manner,” he added.
One
of the sugar consumers Ms Jamila Yahaya who attended the launching
event said that the sugar company has given them best option for small
income earners to purchase small packed sugar at the lowest prices.
The
company said in its 2016/17 financial year it supported 8,000 cane
grower farmers with 1,613 jobs created through the supply chain.
It
also provided technical and capacity-building support to cane growers,
as well as investment in roads and other infrastructure.
Kilombero
Sugar Company’s total economic impact on the local economy amounted to
360bn/- last year comprising 98bn/- in direct impacts and the balance
resulting from the multiplier effects of its business operations within
the supply chain and wider economy.
