THE government is set to construct 67 district
hospitals across the country in the 2018/19 fiscal year. Minister of
State in the President’s Office - Regional Administration and Local
Government, Mr Selemani Jafo, said yesterday that the government has
allocated 105bn/- for the purpose.
The Minister was speaking during a special programme aired on local TV. The programme invites various government officials to explain and give details on the implementation of various development projects.
He said the government is determined to strengthen the health sector in the country and that construction of district hospitals is part of the plan.
“The fifth phase government is determined to improve health services across the country; we are looking forward to bring changes in the sector,” he said.
He revealed that in the 2017/18 FY, the government has managed to increase health centres that conduct surgery from 115 to 208.
He said the construction of health centres is in line with the construction of district hospitals in various areas in the country.
The Minister added that the Medical Stores Department (MSD) has already given enough funds for distributing medical equipment to various health centres across the country.
He added that in the 2017/18 year, local governments have succeeded to strengthen education sector, health and construction of infrastructure, which stimulate economic growth and development at large.
The Minister has directed all councils across the country to set strategies that will lead to an increase of revenue collection and ensure proper uses of public fund.
“I would like all council directors to ensure proper and effective collection of revenue in their areas; we are going to give a stern warning to all councils that are recording poor performance,” he noted.
