THE
Dodoma Regional Commissioner (RC), Dr Binilith Mahenge, on Thursday
will launch a historic wine festival meant to make the industry a source
of national pride.
The
organiser, Ms Atwitye Makweta, said the event would be organised under
the Hut of Wine and
Cheese scheduled for early November, this year.
She said the event was intended to raise the Dodoma profile as the winery tourist destination in the country and outside.
Ms
Makweta said Dr Mahenge would also make public the organising committee
that comprises stakeholders like hoteliers, tour operators, wine
manufacturers, famers and vendors, among others.
“We want to promote the sector as a source of employment creation as well as revenue generation,” she noted.
She
pointed out that the festival would have positive spinning effects on
Tanzanians’ distinguishable hospitable culture, boost wine tourism and a
forum to exchange business ideas.
At
the end of the day, Ms Makweta said, food producers, transporters,
hotels, cultural institutions and banks would largely benefit from the
event.
“We
will showcase and promote local brands by exposing producers to
international standards to explore more international markets,” said Ms
Makweta.
She
noted that Dodoma had been picked for the wine festival for its known
wine destination locally and abroad thus this position made it an ideal
venue for hosting the event.
