THE
National Electoral Commission (NEC) has appointed eight women in
Special Seats to fill the vacant positions of Councillors in some 79
Wards scheduled for by-elections next month.
A
press statement issued by the commission yesterday in Dar es Salaam,
said that the eight women appointment was made in a meeting convened by
the Commission on July 19, this year.
The
appointment of the eight women in the special seats comes after the
Minister responsible for Local Governments tasked the commission to
organise the by-elections to fill the vacant positions in the Wards.
The
NEC Chairman Judge (retired) Semistocles Kaijage said in the statement
that the Minister also tasked the commission to appoint women from the
ruling Party CCM and CHADEMA to fill the vacant positions.
The seats were declared vacant following the death of some of the Councillors and some defecting to other political parties.
Judge
Kaijage named the appointed women in the special seats as Ajira Rajabu
Kalinga (CCM - Songea), Ms Mary Kazindogo Mbilinyi (CCM-Makete) and Ms
Zainab Abdi Mabrouk (CCMKongwa).
Others
were Ms Restuta Aloyce Gardian (CCM-Muleba), Ms Siglinda Sylvesta
Ngwega (CCMMorogoro), Ms Ndugu Zena Saadi Luzwilo (CCM Kahama), Ms Neema
Michael Massawe (CHADEMA- Monduli) and, Ms Teodola Myula Kalungwana
(CHADEMA- Iringa).
NEC
recently announced the by-election at Buyungu Constituency in Kigoma
Region, following the death of its legislator, Mr Kasuku Bilango
(Chadema).
