THE National Electoral Commission (NEC) has appointed eight women in Special Seats to fill the vacant positions of Councillors in some 79 Wards scheduled for by-elections next month.
A press statement issued by the commission yesterday in Dar es Salaam, said that the eight women appointment was made in a meeting convened by the Commission on July 19, this year.

The appointment of the eight women in the special seats comes after the Minister responsible for Local Governments tasked the commission to organise the by-elections to fill the vacant positions in the Wards.
The NEC Chairman Judge (retired) Semistocles Kaijage said in the statement that the Minister also tasked the commission to appoint women from the ruling Party CCM and CHADEMA to fill the vacant positions.
The seats were declared vacant following the death of some of the Councillors and some defecting to other political parties.
Judge Kaijage named the appointed women in the special seats as Ajira Rajabu Kalinga (CCM - Songea), Ms Mary Kazindogo Mbilinyi (CCM-Makete) and Ms Zainab Abdi Mabrouk (CCMKongwa).
Others were Ms Restuta Aloyce Gardian (CCM-Muleba), Ms Siglinda Sylvesta Ngwega (CCMMorogoro), Ms Ndugu Zena Saadi Luzwilo (CCM Kahama), Ms Neema Michael Massawe (CHADEMA- Monduli) and, Ms Teodola Myula Kalungwana (CHADEMA- Iringa).
NEC recently announced the by-election at Buyungu Constituency in Kigoma Region, following the death of its legislator, Mr Kasuku Bilango (Chadema).
