Katavi region, Tanroads, Uongozi Institute ... shine at NEEC 2018 awards

THE National Economic Empowerment Council (NEEC) yesterday awarded eighteen public and private companies working in the promotion of economic empowerment initiatives for outstanding performances in 2017.

The winning institutions received their awards at the third annual NEEC forum which was presided over by the Prime Minister, Mr Kassim Majaliwa. One of the 31 administrative regions, Katavi, emerged among top winners in the 2018 NEEC awards.
Kigoma and Pwani regions came up first and second runner-ups respectively, all increased per capita income and servings.
The awards had also considered the number of new industries, notably those processing locally produced agricultural products as raw materials and for effectively spending the designated 10 per cent funds to empower women, youth and the disabled.
The Tanzania National Roads Agency (Tanroads) outshined ministries, government institution and agencies for creating empowerment opportunities, policy and legal framework reviews to influence local empowerments.
Ministry of Agriculture come second and third place was the Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism.
Tanzania Standard Newspapers (TSN) Marketing Manager Januarius Maganga pronounced Uongozi Institute top winner for outstanding performance in supporting the council to fulfill its empowerment duties.
Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT) and CND Smith emerged first and second runner-ups respectively.
The National Economic Empowerment Council also awarded outstanding entrepreneurs for their achievement, strategies and plans, job creations, use of local raw materials and tax compliance.
The new winners were Must Lead that come third place, Ibra Construction Ltd (second place) and first place was Namburi Agricultural Limited.
Private Agricultural Sector Support Trust took the trophy among empowerment Funds.
In an assessment that considered the efforts done by the funds, it considered the initial and existing capital, a number of beneficiaries, a number of loans disbursed as well as a total area covered.
The second place went to Tanzania Forest Fund while in third place was the President’s Trust Fund.
