Kenya has lost its bid to host the 2021 World Chamber Congress to Dubai, Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) has said.
The congress held on a rotational basis every two years brings together global trade bodies, chambers, business and high profile government officials to share best practices, develop networks and learn new areas of innovation.
“We lost it to Dubai on account that they garnered more votes than we did. I think African countries didn’t vote for us in big numbers and Dubai must have lobbied for more support to host the congress than we did,” KNCCI acting chief executive officer George Kiondo told the Business Daily Wednesday.
“The International Chamber of Commerce Jury will let us know the total number of votes we got on June 10. As at now, all they have communicated is that Dubai won the race to host the 2021 WCC,” he said.
The 2021 congress was earmarked to take place in either Africa or Middle East.
Bidding countries included Dubai, Kenya, Iran, Jordan, Ethiopia and Oman.
The KNCCI bidding committee team made its live presentation in China on April 10 and subsequently its final bid book to the WCC jury members on April 24 and has been waiting the final verdict.
The event has previously been held in South Korea, Canada, South Africa, France, Turkey, Malaysia, Qatar, Mexico and Italy.
