Swedish Disc Jockey (DJ) and electronic dance music superstar Avicii topped the list of trending Google Kenyan searches between April 15 and 22.
Avicii, real name Tim Bergling, was a hit-maker popularly known for tracks such as "Hey Brother" and "Wake Me Up".
He retired from live performances due to health issues in 2016, and was found dead on Friday in Muscat, Oman, a popular vacation destination in the Arabian Peninsula.
2. Arsene Wenger
Trending at number two on the top searches released by Google on Sunday was football, with the FA Cup semi-final match between Manchester United and London-based Tottenham Hotspurs and Arsene Wenger’s announcement that he would be leaving Arsenal at the end of the season, after almost 22-years as manager.
3. Kenneth Matiba
Multiparty crusader Kenneth Matiba trended at number three as Kenyans sought to find out details about his death on the evening of Sunday, April 15.
He at the age of 85 while undergoing treatment at the Karen Hospital after a long illness.
4. Ali Kiba’s wedding
Tanzanian crooner Ali Saleh Kiba’s — popularly known as Alikiba — wedding on April 19 to Mombasa-born Amina Khalif brought together musicians and politicians.
5. Earth Day
The annual event was celebrated on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection.
6. Diamond Platnumz arrested
The Tanzanian bongo star was arrested on April 16 over footage of himself and Hamissa Mobetto, a mother of one of his children, which was perceived as explicit.
7. Grace Kipchoim
The death of Baringo South MP Grace Kipchoim.
She died on Friday morning while undergoing treatment at Nairobi Hospital after a long battle with colon cancer.
8. KPLC token delay
Kenyans online vented their frustrations over the glitch in KPLC’s electronic payment system, which made it difficult to top-up tokens as well as claims of inflated power bills.
9. IEBC commissioners resign
The resignation of IEBC Vice Chairperson Consolata Maina and commissioners Paul Kurgat and Margaret Mwachanya on Monday, citing lack of faith in the commission’s chairman.
10. Julius Malema Challenge
At number 10 was the much-hyped Julius Malema aka Mama Challenge, which started on Saturday afternoon following the Economic Freedom Fighters’ (EFF) leader’s speech at Winnie Madikizela-Mandela’s funeral, where he called out government leaders for their hypocrisy because of the way they betrayed Winnie Mandela, as a section of Kenyans online joined the challenge to air their frustrations about some of the problems in the country.
