Thika-based confectionery firm, Broadways Bakery is running a
campaign to encourage Kenyans to eat healthy foods and lead active lives
to avert lifestyle diseases.

Manager Devan Shah told Marketplace that the firm had partnered with Pan
African Heart Foundation where Broadways staff will visit various towns
on a monthly basis to create awareness on Diabetes.
“Broadways
bread will go on to stretch out the campaign across the country to give
Kenyans the opportunity to discover their health status and get to know
more about diabetes. We seek to emphasise the ultimate importance of
being sugar-smart,” said Mr Shah of the drive dubbed #Sugar-Smart
Campaign.
Broadways Bread brand ambassador DJ Mo urged Kenyans to take deliberate steps towards healthy living.
“Your health matters and that is why Broadways bread is here to
ensure you get the best in health services especially for diabetes and
hypertension. It all starts with knowing your health status,” he said.
“For
those found to be suffering from diabetes, this will give you power to
determine the direction your life takes in matters diet and exercise.”
DJ
Mo said early management of sugar intake and a frequent exercise regime
would boost individual health enabling them to lead healthy and
productive lives.
According to the International
Diabetes Federation, 700,000 Kenyans are living with diabetes but only
150,000 know their health status and are actively taking measures to
reverse the adverse effects of diabetes.
