Jerry was the owner of a successful restaurant. One day, when
the back door of his restaurant was open, he was robbed by three armed
men.
They forced Jerry to open the safe box. While
Jerry was trying to open it, his hand, shaking from nervousness, slipped
off the combination. The robbers panicked and shot him.
Luckily,
he was found quickly and rushed to hospital. After 18 hours of surgery
and weeks of intensive care, Jerry was discharged with fragments of the
bullets still in his body.
A friend asked him what was
going through his mind as the robbery took place. “The first thing that
went through my mind was that I should have locked the back door,”
Jerry replied.
“Then after they shot me, as I lay on the floor, I remembered
that I had two choices: I could choose to live or I could choose to die.
I chose to live.” “Weren’t you scared?” his friend asked.
Jerry
continued: “The paramedics were great. They kept telling me that I was
going to be fine. But when they wheeled me into the emergency room and I
saw the expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses, I got
really scared. In their eyes, I read ‘He’s a dead man.’
And
I knew I needed to take action.” So, when the nurse was shouting
questions at me and asked me if I was allergic to anything. ‘Yes,’ I
replied. The doctors and nurses stopped working as they waited for my
reply. I took a deep breath and yelled, ‘Bullets!’
Over
their laughter, I told them, ‘I’m choosing to live. Please operate on
me as if I’m alive, and not dead’.” Jerry lived thanks to the skill of
his doctors, but also because of his amazing attitude.
His message: while you have no power on outside events, you have all the power over your mind.
Life is a struggle for those who consider quitting as a choice.
Stay focused to achieve
1.
Have goals, decide on standards and stand by them: Goals always seem
impossible until done. So, stay focused, go after your dreams and keep
moving towards your goals.
2. Believe in yourself and
your capabilities: You are what you are and more importantly you become
what you believe in yourself. Have faith in your abilities and
confidence to succeed.
3. Be enthusiastic, stimulated
and lively: Even in tough situations, do not lose hope, or blame others.
Always maintain calm and remain enthusiastic because nothing great was
ever achieved without enthusiasm.
4. Remain positive,
no matter what situation you are in: It all begins and ends in the mind.
What you give power to has power over you, if you allow it.
5.
Let go of what others think: You are who you are. Nobody’s opinion can
take you away from who you are. So, avoid pointless, petty conflicts
because you can’t control everyone and everything.
