Sarova Hotels has taken over management of the Spirit of the Masai Mara, a luxury lodge located at the world famous game reserve.
Sarova on Wednesday announced the signing of a 15-year partnership with owners of the lodge, the McCarthy Family.
Sarova will run the property starting April and position it as one of its exclusive facilities.
The Spirit of the Masai Mara is a 10-suites lodge and the only property at the 12,500 acre Siana Conservancy, a private conservancy within the Maasai Mara Game Reserve.
The new deal means that Sarova has an additional property at the Maasai Mara, which brings the group’s total room count to 1,250 in Kenya.
The hotel also follows the unveiling of Sarova Woodlands in Nakuru early last year after the signing of a management contract with Woodlands Hotel Limited.
Sarova Hotels managing director Jimi Kariuki on Wednesday said the management contract with Spirit of the Masai Mara is part of the group’s strategy to reposition into a luxury brand.
“We serve different types of customers and we want to give them experiences according to their needs. We plan to keep identifying and seizing unique opportunities whenever they arise,” said Mr Kariuki.
The lodge has been operational since 2015. Siana Conservancy is part of a 35,000-acre private conservancy set up by the McCathy family with the help of World Wildlife Fund (WWF).
Following the signing of the contract, Sarova is set to add a family suite and a spa to the property.
“This is a fantastic opportunity for the Spirit of the Masai Mara Lodge given their (Sarova) expertise in the hospitality market. We trust in the level of their service and marketing skills to keep tourists coming,” said Mr Justin McCarthy.
