NEC: We still recognise Jumbe in Singida North by-election

DAILY NEWS Reporter
THE National Electoral Commission (NEC) has reiterated that CHADEMA’s candidate to vie for Singida North Constituency on January 13 by-elections, would remain David Jumbe.

NEC Director of Elections, Mr Kailima Ramadhan (pictured), said yesterday that Mr Jumbe was among other candidates nominated by the constituency’s returning officer on December 18, after meeting all the prerequisites qualification.
He named other candidates vying for the same position as Omari Sombi (from AFP), Dalphina Patrick Mlewa (CUF), Monko Justine Joseph (CCM), Aloyce Mohamedi Nduguta (ADA TADEA) and Rev Yohana Samuel Labisu (CCK).
However, CHADEMA Secretary General, Dr Vincent Mashinji maintained on Tuesday that the party would not field any candidate to compete in the by election.
“Mr Jumbe submitted his introduction letter from his party that was signed by CHADEMA Secretary in Singida District, Mr Amani Mloya and he was issued with nomination Form Number 8B and the District Secretary filled part C, which indicated that he was sponsored by the party and given all the blessing to vie for the post,’’ pointed out Mr Kailima.
The NEC Director of Elections further said that the party presented them with a timetable for their campaign and other recommendations through the constituency’s returning officer, as well as appointing Mr Shaban Lyimo as their member of the Ethics Committee on December 19, this year.
In confirming that Mr Jumbe would be the right candidate to vie for a parliamentary seat in the constituency, Mr Kailima said despite the former having submitted a letter to NEC on December 19, 2017, expressing his intention to withdraw from the race, the Commission snubbed it on grounds that it was signed by an advocate instead of a magistrate.
