Some 24 beneficiaries of the KCB Foundation
2jiajiri programme have graduated after completing a three-month
intensive domestic services training at Kibondeni College in Nairobi.
This
brings to 945 the number of graduates in the domestic service sector
sponsored by the
foundation since inception in March 2016.

The three-month training involved provision of high-level skills on housekeeping, cookery and laundry.

Foundation executive director Jane Mwangi said there was a need for
clear training strategy and programme for domestic workers. “This would
help professionalise the sector, make it a sector of choice and give it
the required profile,” she said.
Ms Mwangi said
domestic services sector remains a key contributor of jobs in Kenya,
domestic workers continue to be viewed as lowly people.
“In
an effort to change perceptions, KCB Foundation and Kibondeni College
forged a working relationship that seeks to support vocational training
of domestic workers under the domestic services sub-sector of our
2jiajiri programme,” she said.
