Parliament Thursday evening inched closer to picking nine people
to represent the country in the regional Parliament after the two main
political parties presented lists largely dominated by MPs who lost in
the August 8 General Election.
Out of the 15 nominees by Jubilee to battle it out for the five slots allocated to the party, five lost their seats.
In
the eight persons nominated by the National Super Alliance (Nasa) to
battle for the four available slots in the East African Legislative
Assembly (Eala), three did not retain their posts as well.
Kenya has nine slots and the 23 nominatees will battle for the Sh1.4 million a month job.
Nasa
leader Raila Odinga and his co-principal Kalanzo Musyoka’s political
outfits ODM and Wiper have picked Oburu Oginga and Kennedy Musyoka
respectively. Mr Oginga is Mr Odinga’s elder brother while Kennedy is Mr
Musyoka’s son.
In
Jubilee, President Uhuru Kenyatta has sanctioned the nomination of
former MPs Simon Mbugua (Kamukunji), Mpuri Aburi (Tigania East),
Wanjiku Muhia (Nyandarua), Mohammed Nooru (Mandera North), Abdulaziz
Ali Farah (Mandera East) and Eunice Wanjiru Karanja who failed to
capture the Trans Nzoia women representative seat.
Former Constitutional Implementation Commission chairman Charles
Nyachae and clerk of the National Assembly Justin Bundi top the list of
other Jubilee nominees who were issued with provisional nomination
certificates.
