E-commerce firm sets sight on Black Friday

AN electronic trading firm, Jumia Tanzania has launched a special campaign that offers a discount of up to 70 per cent for Christmas online purchasing.

The campaign dubbed ‘Black Friday’ which was launched in Dar es Salaam yesterday will run for some 10 days from last Friday of this month to first Monday of next month.
Jumia Sales Manager Tanzania Mr Iddy Mkumba said they decided to repeat the last year’s offer due to its great success. However, this year the days are extended.
“Last year online shopping went up by over 600 times. Then we have decided to extend days from five to ten,” Mr Mkumba told journalists yesterday. Black Friday on November 24 is a shopping day for a combination of reasons.
As the first day after the last major holiday before Christmas, it marks the unofficial beginning of the Christmas shopping season.
Unlike last year campaign, this year Jumia’s Black Friday will be extended to other regions apart from Dar es Salaam. He named some of regions where customers will be able to shop online through Jumia service include Dodoma, Mwanza, Morogoro, Arusha, Kilimanjaro, Iringa and Mara.
Also parts of Zanzibar Islands. The objective of this campaign, according to Jumia, is to cultivate online purchasing culture among wananchi.
To enable customers to get a maximum discount, the firm has entered some joint venture with companies as Samsung, StarTimes, and Tronic.
