Devki Group intends to put up a Sh3 billion cement plant in
Njoro sub-county, Nakuru, days after it announced a similar venture in
Kilifi.
Regulatory filings with the National
Environmental Management Authority (Nema) show Devki Group, owned by
billionaire Narendra Raval, has acquired a parcel of land on the
Nakuru-Eldoret highway in Rongai township for the investment.
Mr
Raval, as known as Guru, said his investment targets customers within
Nakuru, Baringo, Narok and Uasin Gishu counties and Western Kenya.
This
is the second proposal to Nema for a cement factory in Nakuru after
Kitengela-based quarry operator Karsan Ramji and Sons announced plans to
establish one at Engashura, seven kilometres from Nakuru town with a
capacity to produce 224,000 metric tonnes annually.
Devki’s
Nakuru facility will provide employment to 900 people during
construction and on completion will have a capacity to produce 750,000
tonnes of cement annually.
Mr Raval has also acquired a
20 hectare parcel of land in Shangi, Kilifi county where he plans to
spend another Sh3 billion on a 1 million metric capacity cement plant.
“My
aim is to build cement factories close to Kenyans thereby ensuring
ex-factory prices are kept at the most probable minimal cost,” he said.
