President John Magufuli has nominated former Chama Cha Mapinduzi’s Women Wing (UWT) chairperson in Dar es Salaam region, Janeth Masaburi as a Member of Parliament.
A press statement issued by the Director
of Presidential Communications, Mr Gerson Msigwa, late Saturday, said
Ms Janeth Masaburi has been appointed in accordance with the Article 66
(1) (e) of Constitution.
The article gives the President a power
to nominate 10 Members of Parliament. As per the section, at least five
nominated MPs should be women.
The statement also added that Ms Janeth,
wife of the late Dar es Salaam City Mayor, Dr Didas Masaburi, will take
the oath when Bunge business resumes in the designated capital, Dodoma.
In 2015, she was among the nominees
whose names were submitted to the electoral body for in the special
seats category. She could not make it through owing to the fact that a
considerable number of constituencies went to the opposition outfit.
