Experts work on school data soon to go online

BERNARD LUGONGO
DATA scientists have come up with an online platform consisting of the analyzed data for schools so that parents and budget planners could invest in accordance with real needs of the school.

The ‘Dropwall’ system developed by Eagle Analytics Company is expected to address challenges facing the schools and thus reduce the rate of school dropouts.
The company designed the system available on the website www.eagleanalytics.co.tz/dlli’ after emerging among winners of the DLI, or Data for Local Impact, project.
The DLI, which is funded by the Millennium Challenge Corporation, is being implemented by the Dar Teknohama Business Incubator (DTBi) at the Commission for Science and Technology (COSTECH).
Introducing the new system at the weekend, DTBi Monitoring and Evaluation Manager Dr Geofrey Chambua said the DLI came up with the idea after realizing that there was “a public thirst” for data.
“The Dropwall will facilitate the easy and timely availability of school data … because it will be under a single pool,” Dr Chambua noted.
Elaborating on the new system, Executive Director of the Eagles Analytics, Ms Rose Funja, said it would help the parents know the weaknesses of the school by using the data and thus participate in finding solution to improve the learning environment.
For planners, likewise, the system would enable users to predict the impact of any investments made within a particular school.
She said the system holds an online page indicating list of schools on which a viewer could click any school and see data from the government regarding the teacher-student ratio, student-pit latrine ratio, pupil-classroom ratio and other factors which contribute to performance of the school and dropouts.
