Former spy chief, retired Major General Michael Gichangi, has been appointed as a non-executive director of Kenya Airways. He
joined the national carrier's board on Friday when the company held its
annual general meeting during which non-executive directors Caroline
Armstrong and Prof Paul Mwangi were also re-elected.
Maj-Gen Gichangi resigned as the director of the National Intelligence Service in 2014.
His
appointment at KQ is in line with appointment of former top officials
of security agencies to boards of parastatals and State-controlled
firms.
The changes are only the latest management shakeup at the troubled carrier as it eyes a return to profitability.
The directors join a board headed by former Safaricom
chief executive Michael Joseph, who took the helm less than a year ago, replacing Dennis Awori.
KQ
also picked Sebastian Mikosz, a Polish national, as the Group chief
executive to replace Mbuvi Ngunze and lead recovery efforts at the
airline.
