Electoral commission boss Wafula Chebukati has
defended his work, vowing he will not resign following irregularities
pointed out by the Supreme Court in the August 8 polls.
Mr
Chebukati argued that he was not personally touched by the Court
judgement, promising to make internal changes in the secretariat.
“We
are open to probe and prosecution. As such, I invite the Kenya’s chief
prosecutor Keriako Tobiko to investigate and prosecute staff who might
have been involved elections malpractice,” he told journalists, hours
after Nasa leaders led by Raila Odinga called for prosecution of IEBC
bosses.
Mr Chebulati called for
Kenyans to remain calm as the country goes through fresh presidential
elections that have been ordered by the Supreme Court.
In
its verdict earlier in the day, the Supreme Court noted that the August
8 polls were marred with instances of irregularities in how they were
conducted.
The changes to planned within the commission will see review of its systems as well as a shakeup of its staff.
