Ken Tarus, who has been heading Kenya Power in an acting capacity since January this year, has been confirmed as
chief executive and managing director of the utility firm.
His appointment to the helm takes effect from August 1.
“With
full responsibility for the leadership and development of the Kenya
Power’s electricity distribution business, Dr Tarus will play a key role
in entrenching the Company as a leader in electricity subsector by
aggressively pursuing its business growth and diversification strategy,”
board chair Kenneth Marende said in a statement.
He
took over the company following the exit of Ben Chumo after activist
Okiya Omtatah moved to court to block him from taking up a second term.
A judge then issued temporary orders stopping the renewal of Mr Chumo's tenure after he attained the age of 60.
Mr Tarus was the general manager of Finance before taking helm of the power distributor seven months ago.
