City Hall has said it will fully automate its revenue channels from Friday in a bid to seal loopholes.
Governor Mike Sonko said going cashless will double annual revenue from Sh15.5 billion to Sh30 billion.
In
a statement, Mr Sonko said all Nairobi County systems will go fully
electronic adding that nobody will be allowed to pay cash to acquire any
service.
“Nairobi loses millions of shilling daily,
partly due to weak control systems and a deeply entrenched corruption
culture that has become a way of life for most of those working for the
county. This will come to an end under my administration,” stated Mr
Sonko.
The
sentiments have been echoed by Jambopay, an electronic platform
contracted by City Hall to collect revenue on its behalf. The firm’s
chief executive Danson Muchemi said they have been given a go-ahead to
automate all the 136 revenue centres by September 1.
“The
governor is in support of our system and wants to automate all the
revenue collected by the beginning of this month,” said Mr Muchemi.
