PRESIDENT John Magufuli has appointed Dr Hassan Abbas as Director General of the Tanzania Information Services and Chief Government Spokesperson.
A statement issued in Dar es Salaam
yesterday by the Chief Secretary, Ambassador John Kijazi, said that the
appointment of Dr Abbas became effective on August 9, this year.
Before his appointment, Dr Abbas was
serving as Director of Tanzania Information Services and he was
appointed by Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports as per
the Public Service Act No 8 of 2002.
The statement further said that Dr Abbas
has been appointed to the new position as per new Media Services Act
2016 where by the position has been changed from being Director of
Tanzania Information Services to Director General of the Tanzania
Information Services and Chief Government Spokesperson as Presidential
appointee.
Dr Abbas served as Di rector of Tanzania
Information Services for a period of one year. He was appointed to the
position in August last year. Before his appointment, Dr Abbas was the
Manager of Information and Communications at the former President’s
Delivery Bureau, which was responsible for the implementation of the Big
Results Now (Project) BRN.
