Pick lessons from Fair, VP stresses

DAILY NEWS Reporter
VICE-PRESIDENT Samia Suluhu Hassan has been impressed by the improvement of technology and various goods exhibited at the 41st Dar es Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF).

“Things have improved and there are bigger opportunities compared to previous years with regard to technology for producing various goods; which is a reflection of steady economic growth,” she said during tours of various pavilions at the trade fair grounds along Kilwa Road in Dar es Salaam yesterday.
The VP said by using improved technology, goods produced domestically are winning the hearts of local, regional and international markets because they meet the required standards.
The VP encouraged financial institutions to continue supporting local manufacturing sector stakeholders to invest in technology to increase output and productivity to meet market standards.
“Lending institutions should consider working with the manufacturing sector in order to boost their own businesses. When financial and manufacturing sectors expand together, the economy will also grow fast,” she added.
During tours of various pavilions, the VP asked the Economic Processing Zone Authority (EPZA) to ensure that working conditions in industries under EPZ were improved. She also challenged small and medium enterprises to capitalise on the immense opportunities in the EPZ.
On his part, the Board Chairman of the Tanzania Trade Development Authority (TanTrade), Christopher Chiza, urged visitors to the fair grounds to not only buy goods, but learn the various technologies showcased in the exhibitions.
“Exhibitions are not only places for making purchases, but, equally importantly, to learn and pick various entrepreneurial skills,” he said.
He also said that most people were still buying imported goods, characterising the trend as a ‘hangover’ that would vanish gradually, in the wake of fast technological advancements in domestic manufacturing.
